Mac Steamy and Gwladys Street Make it Two 2nds on the Night

Mac Steamy and Gwladys Street ran fantastic races but made it a frustrating night for the yard with both finishing 2nd at Sedgefield on Tuesday evening.

Gwladys Street was beaten by the Donald Mccain trained 1/4 odds on favourite Grouse Lodge by 2 lengths. He Jumped and travelled really well and made the favourite pull out all the stops carrying  3 lbs more in weight. It was another improved performance and he really does look like he is growing up and starting to learn what racing is all about. We now wait to here what handicap mark he is allocated.

The Racing Post commented:

Gwladys Street, third in a bumper here in January, had finished well beaten in two previous starts over hurdles. On the face of it, he showed a much-improved effort, seriously troubling the winner. Whether he was flattered remains to be seen.

Mac Steamy ran a huge race to be second in the bumper in what looked like an above average race of its kind for the time of year at this track. He was jumped off handy but proved to be quite keen and soon ended up making the running. He set a strong gallop and it took a very good horse to get past him in the highly regarded Shanen. In hindsight we should have run him differently and tried to seek some cover, none the less it was still an impressive run beating plenty of well fancied runners.

The Racing Post commented:

Mac Steamy, an £8,000 purchase, came here on the back of two point wins. Rather keen in front, he kept on well to finish clear second best. Quite a big type, he will make a chaser one day.

Mac Steamy holds and entry at the Brightwells May sale at Cheltenham. In an ideal world we would find an purchaser who would like to keep him with us here at Peel!
